Why should you Walk?

Let’s face it. Climate change is the greatest threat to our way of life. It’s happening now, and our leaders aren’t doing enough to stop it.

Imagine a future with more heatwaves, disasterous bushfires, endless droughts and devastating floods. It's not a comforting thought. That’s the future we’re leaving our children if we don't act now.

On a global scale, climate change will be as destructive as the two World Wars and the Great Depression combined. Climate change will affect everyone. Sadly, the world’s poorest people in developing countries – those least responsible for causing it - are already suffering due to climate change and will continue to be the hardest hit. But by acting now, we can prevent the most serious consequences of climate change.

Imagine a world where the air we breathe is clean and fresh. Where the energy that fuels our lives comes from steady winds and warm sunshine. Transportation for everyone is fast, efficient, and clean. Highly efficient buildings keep emissions incredibly low. Where oxygen-producing vegetation is thick, abundant and sustainable. Where Australia achieves strong emissions reductions targets, and becomes a world leader in climate change action.

And now imagine YOU, as a part of the action to make that dream a reality!

That’s why we’re Walking Against Warming. That’s why we’re forming a giant Human Sign on Princes Bridge to send a message to our world leaders they can’t ignore. That’s why we need you, your friends and family, your neighbours, school group, sporting club and work colleagues, to join us so that we can show the world that Victorians are ready for the change we need.

So if you’ve ever replaced an old light globe with an energy efficient one, taken public transport instead of driving, switched to Green Power, or worried about the kind of world you’re going to leave to your kids, then the 2009 Walk Against Warming is for you!

Will you RSVP and join us?
